E-commerce development in Montenegro

An online store is its own category — more moving parts than a regular site, different risk (money, inventory, regulation), different process (payment testing, legal docs, returns). We build e-commerce in Montenegro and across the Balkans — from a small catalog of 20 products to larger shops with thousands of SKUs, with payments through Stripe or local banks (Monte banka, CKB, NLB). Payments and shipping in the Balkans context

Balkan e-commerce has specifics you cannot skip. Online card payments — Monte banka, CKB, and NLB offer merchant solutions in Montenegro, but onboarding paperwork takes 2–6 weeks (we run it in parallel with development). Stripe works for EU customers but not for Montenegrin domestic transactions without a workaround. Cash on delivery is still dominant in MNE/SRB/BiH — over 50% of orders in some categories. Our default setup: card + cash on delivery + bank transfer. Shipping: integration with national post services and private couriers (DHL, AKS). Real-time order status tracking for the buyer in every build.

Shopify vs custom

Shopify

Makes sense if: you sell fewer than 500 products, you do not need specialized logic (B2B pricing, complex variants, custom workflows), you can pay $30–300/month plus transaction fees. Faster and cheaper to start.

Custom (us)

Makes sense if: you have more than 500 products or growth plans, you need B2B features (per-client pricing, credit lines), you have complex integration (ERP, custom checkout flow), or Shopify's monthly fee outweighs a custom build over 24 months. When unsure — call and we calculate together.

FAQ

Do you support card payments in the Balkans? Which bank?

Yes. We work with Monte banka, CKB, and NLB in Montenegro — all three have online merchant solutions for e-commerce. You open the merchant account (bank paperwork 2–6 weeks), we integrate the gateway. We develop in parallel so the technical side is ready when the bank approves.

What is the card processing fee?

Balkan banks charge 1.5–3% per transaction, plus a monthly merchant fee (€15–50). Stripe (for EU customers) is 1.4–2.9%. We are transparent — we show you exact bank rates before you choose. We do not receive a kickback from any bank for your choice.

Can I add products myself after launch?

Yes, that is the main job of the admin panel. You add products, images, prices, variants, discounts — all without code. Structural changes (e.g. adding a new category field) need a small intervention from us, but day-to-day management is yours.

What about SEO for an online store? How does Google find me?

Technical SEO is part of the build — Product structured data, fast load time, clean URLs per category and product, auto-generated sitemap, per-product meta. That is the foundation. Content SEO (product descriptions, blog, category pages) is your side of the work — but we hand you a template and checklist on ship day.
